Bubblicious Ideas for New Year's

We’re fans of the notion that Champagne and Sparkling Wine should not be reserved for New Year’s Eve.  However, with the dawn of the New Year approaching fast we can’t help but ponder what to drink for this annual, festive occasion.

To follow are a few bubblicious ideas for your fete whether it be a big, rowdy party or a quiet, intimate gathering. These are some of our favorites at every price point and none bring with them that instant threat of a throbbing hangover…  Unless of course you drink too much; that we cannot control!

Happy New Year - -have a safe and happy celebration and a happy, healthy, successful 2011. Cheers.

NV Castellroig Cava Brut, Spain ($15.99)
ELEGANT: Champagne-Like, Minerally, Frothy, Zippy
Unlike most of the cavas in the US market today, Castell Roig owns their own vines and controls all areas of production in order to produce this 'true' cava. A price worthy of a big party & a taste to make it a celebration.

NV Le Colture Fagher Prosecco di Valdobbiadene Brut Italy ($16.99)
ELEGANT: Dry, Refreshing, Lemon, Crisp, Light
S. Stefano di Valdobbiadene is located right in the heart of the lively and lush green hills of Prosecco in the Veneto region. This is the best Prosecco we've tasted with many of the frothy, fresh qualities of Champagne for far less a price.

NV J Vineyards Cuvée 20 Sparkling Wine ($24.99)
JUICY: Fresh, Green Apple, Lemon, Honeysuckle
Celebrating twenty years of winemaking excellence, J Cuvée 20 is made with the classic Champagne varietals. An affordable sparkling with fresh fruit and just enough lively acidity to make your taste buds (& maybe you!) dance.

2006 Schramsberg Brut Rose Sparkling Wine ($36.99)
ELEGANT: Clean, Frothy, Fresh Cherry & Strawberry
Schramsberg Brut Rose is flavorful, complex & dry, making it both versatile with food and delicious by itself as an apertif. A fan favorite during our Schrasmberg tasting, this pretty, delicious sparkling will make any occasion special.

NV Jacquesson Cuvee 734 Brut Champagne ($59.99)
JUICY: Creamy, Baked Apples, Pear, Rich & Balanced
A small, grower Champagne with big flavors and a long, creamy finish from Jean-Herve and Laurent Chiquet. This is a distinctive Champagne for a special evening and, in the whole scheme of things, it won't break the bank.

2002 Pierre Peters 'Les Chetillons' Cuvee Speciale Brut Champagne ($89.99)
JUICY: Deep Fruit, Mineral, Toast, Fresh, Supple
Hands down our favorite "Grower Champagne" which basically means the same people that oversee the growing of the grapes oversee the making of the wine. Not so with the big brands, which are blended from grapes from various growers to taste the same year in and year out. A treat!

2000 Dom Perignon Champagne France ($159.99)
JUICY: Fresh, Airy, Gentle Richness, Ginger, Mellow
Ahhh, the "king of Champagnes" and from the outstanding 2000 vintage. As a tribute to Andy Warhol, Dom Pérignon teamed up with the Andy Warhol Foundation to design a colorful Dom bottle for this year. What more can you say?

1999 Pol Roger Sir Winston Churchill Champagne ($224.99)
BOLD: Exotic Tropical Fruit, Buttered Toast, Honey
Champagne Pol Roger created their Prestige Cuvée in honor of Sir Winston Churchill and the qualities that he sought in his Champagne: robustness, a full-bodied character and relative maturity. Now this is a celebration in and of itself!
